Narrative:
The cpdlc test with maastricht/amsterdam control is cumbersome and unsafe. You are climbing; getting re-rted to new fixes; leveling off; climbing again; and the ACARS ATC messages are interfering with operating the airplane. Cpdlc messages have to be 1) printed; 2) read by PNF; 3) read by PF and agreed; 4) voice verified with VHF; 5) accepted on ACARS; 6) verified on ACARS; and 7) sent. If you get 8 messages (normal out of eddf); that requires over 50 additional actions not previously required. The test should be terminated. We went in and out of eddf four times on a 6 day trip; 200 extra actions were required. The choice is don't log on and participate for safety of flight.
