Narrative:
After being given visual approach to land runway 30L; was asked to slow to final landing speed to allow an F15 departure. The conflicting aircraft was in position to take off but was told to hold. Passing through 500 ft; the aircraft was still not cleared for takeoff. Due to closure to the aircraft; a safe landing could not have been accomplished. Deciding to go around; we sidestepped to the left of runway 30L to keep the F15 in sight and continued go around. The main concern here is no direction was given from tower either to go around or anything. Not until we asked for directions 1/2 way down the field did we finally get a heading and altitude assignment. I would call this controller freeze that could have serious accident potential.

Title: MD80 FLT CREW ELECTS TO EXECUTE GAR BECAUSE OF TFC IN POS ON LNDG RWY; PARALLELS RWY BUT WAS NOT GIVEN FOLLOW UP CTLR INSTRUCTIONS.
Narrative: AFTER BEING GIVEN VISUAL APCH TO LAND RWY 30L; WAS ASKED TO SLOW TO FINAL LNDG SPD TO ALLOW AN F15 DEP. THE CONFLICTING ACFT WAS IN POS TO TAKE OFF BUT WAS TOLD TO HOLD. PASSING THROUGH 500 FT; THE ACFT WAS STILL NOT CLRED FOR TKOF. DUE TO CLOSURE TO THE ACFT; A SAFE LNDG COULD NOT HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED. DECIDING TO GO AROUND; WE SIDESTEPPED TO THE L OF RWY 30L TO KEEP THE F15 IN SIGHT AND CONTINUED GAR. THE MAIN CONCERN HERE IS NO DIRECTION WAS GIVEN FROM TWR EITHER TO GO AROUND OR ANYTHING. NOT UNTIL WE ASKED FOR DIRECTIONS 1/2 WAY DOWN THE FIELD DID WE FINALLY GET A HDG AND ALT ASSIGNMENT. I WOULD CALL THIS CTLR FREEZE THAT COULD HAVE SERIOUS ACCIDENT POTENTIAL.
