Narrative:
While working approach control with several aircraft on vectors for a visual approach to runway 35; in-flight visibility was limited due to haze. I did not receive a warning that a ship was approaching the final. This is a required procedure at phl. With 2 aircraft on final within 10 mi of the airport; 2 aircraft on a downwind for the same runway; and 3 aircraft being vectored to the primary runway; I was notified that the first aircraft on a 6 mi final would not be able to complete the approach due to the ship crossing the final approach path. I feel that this is an unsatisfactory situation that compromises safety because with 7 aircraft in close proximity to the airport; I; as the controller; am very limited in where I can put the aircraft without losing separation or having an airspace deviation with such short notice as to the situation. I feel this matter needs to be addressed immediately to avoid possible accident.

Title: PHL TRACON CTLR EXPRESSED CONCERN REGARDING SHIP TFC NEAR ARR RWY THAT COULD RESULT IN GAR DUE TO FAILED COORD.
Narrative: WHILE WORKING APCH CTL WITH SEVERAL ACFT ON VECTORS FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 35; INFLT VISIBILITY WAS LIMITED DUE TO HAZE. I DID NOT RECEIVE A WARNING THAT A SHIP WAS APCHING THE FINAL. THIS IS A REQUIRED PROC AT PHL. WITH 2 ACFT ON FINAL WITHIN 10 MI OF THE ARPT; 2 ACFT ON A DOWNWIND FOR THE SAME RWY; AND 3 ACFT BEING VECTORED TO THE PRIMARY RWY; I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE FIRST ACFT ON A 6 MI FINAL WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE APCH DUE TO THE SHIP XING THE FINAL APCH PATH. I FEEL THAT THIS IS AN UNSATISFACTORY SIT THAT COMPROMISES SAFETY BECAUSE WITH 7 ACFT IN CLOSE PROX TO THE ARPT; I; AS THE CTLR; AM VERY LIMITED IN WHERE I CAN PUT THE ACFT WITHOUT LOSING SEPARATION OR HAVING AN AIRSPACE DEV WITH SUCH SHORT NOTICE AS TO THE SIT. I FEEL THIS MATTER NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID POSSIBLE ACCIDENT.
