Narrative:
After landing on runway 4R; we cleared the runway on taxiway K. Hnl tower cleared us to cross runways 4L and 8L. As we began to cross the intersecting runways; the tower controller then said to hold short of runway 8L. At that point we were beyond the runway hold short line for runway 4L/8L. We continued to cross without incident. Upon receipt of our landing clearance; we were advised of an air carrier flight landing on runway 8L; and that that aircraft would be holding short of runway 4R. Additionally; a light aircraft was given clearance to land on runway 4L. As we were crossing 4L/8L; the light aircraft initiated a go around without incident. Prior to crossing runway 4L/8L; I verified the runway was clear. It appeared there was an aircraft holding in position at the departure end of runway 8L. The controller appeared to be heavily tasked prior to; and during; our landing; issuing numerous clrncs to a number of aircraft for all 3 runways. There appeared to be a lack of situational awareness on the part of the controller.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757 LNDG RWY 4R AT HNL WAS CLRED TO CROSS RWYS 4L AND 8L THEN TOLD TO HOLD SHORT AFTER XING HOLD LINE. CREW ELECTED TO CONTINUE ACROSS.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG ON RWY 4R; WE CLRED THE RWY ON TXWY K. HNL TWR CLRED US TO CROSS RWYS 4L AND 8L. AS WE BEGAN TO CROSS THE INTERSECTING RWYS; THE TWR CTLR THEN SAID TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 8L. AT THAT POINT WE WERE BEYOND THE RWY HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 4L/8L. WE CONTINUED TO CROSS WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON RECEIPT OF OUR LNDG CLRNC; WE WERE ADVISED OF AN ACR FLT LNDG ON RWY 8L; AND THAT THAT ACFT WOULD BE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 4R. ADDITIONALLY; A LIGHT ACFT WAS GIVEN CLRNC TO LAND ON RWY 4L. AS WE WERE XING 4L/8L; THE LIGHT ACFT INITIATED A GAR WITHOUT INCIDENT. PRIOR TO XING RWY 4L/8L; I VERIFIED THE RWY WAS CLR. IT APPEARED THERE WAS AN ACFT HOLDING IN POS AT THE DEP END OF RWY 8L. THE CTLR APPEARED TO BE HEAVILY TASKED PRIOR TO; AND DURING; OUR LNDG; ISSUING NUMEROUS CLRNCS TO A NUMBER OF ACFT FOR ALL 3 RWYS. THERE APPEARED TO BE A LACK OF SITUATIONAL AWARENESS ON THE PART OF THE CTLR.
