Narrative:
After being cleared for takeoff by tower on doing final items; an EICAS message for 'forward cargo heat' overheat was displayed. While I continued to taxi with power; I called for the correct checklist and the first officer found; read; and reviewed with me the procedure which we did. We finished the final items and I asked all in the cockpit 'do you agree; are you ok for continuing?' we took off; the first officer as PF; and as we reached a safe altitude; I contacted dispatch and maintenance and they agreed the light was out and the procedure was correct. When we arrived at the gate; the FAA jumpseat rider (an A320 air crew manager) debriefed that she understood what I did at takeoff; but was unsure now 2 hours later if we should have canceled takeoff clearance and returned to gate for a different outcome. She advised to file a report.
