Narrative:
Our company changed the standard weights of passenger and bags on 8/thu/05. We also changed our center of gravity calculations. And all aircraft were supposedly re-weighed and indexed. There were multiple memos and notices on wed of the coming change; and the procedures to use. All the notices stated that we were to use the bow and index listed on the attached memo; as of 8/thu/05. During the night of the wed someone decided that all the previous weights and indexes were incorrect. The dispatch releases the morning of 8/thu/05 all stated not to use the indexes of the previous memos; but to use the indexes listed on the release. This statement was poorly written and not highlighted in any way; and was located in the release after the same basic memo from the day before. Because I hurriedly read the release and missed the change to the change; we used the incorrect index for our first flight of the day. I of course feel I should be more careful reading the releases; especially when procedures change. However; I also feel the release could have been worded better; and more attention brought to the fact that we are making a change to the procedures we just changed in the memos from the day before.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AT72 FLT CREW RPTS COMPANY CANCELS LONG PLANNED IMPLEMENTATION OF REVISED PAX AND BAGGAGE WEIGHTS THE NIGHT BEFORE THEY WENT INTO EFFECT. NOTICE OF THE CANCELLATION IS NOT GIVEN ADEQUATE EMPHASIS AND; IN FACT; IS POSTED ONLY AFTER THE STILL EXISTING NOTE DIRECTING THE CHANGE.
Narrative: OUR COMPANY CHANGED THE STANDARD WTS OF PAX AND BAGS ON 8/THU/05. WE ALSO CHANGED OUR CTR OF GRAVITY CALCULATIONS. AND ALL ACFT WERE SUPPOSEDLY RE-WEIGHED AND INDEXED. THERE WERE MULTIPLE MEMOS AND NOTICES ON WED OF THE COMING CHANGE; AND THE PROCS TO USE. ALL THE NOTICES STATED THAT WE WERE TO USE THE BOW AND INDEX LISTED ON THE ATTACHED MEMO; AS OF 8/THU/05. DURING THE NIGHT OF THE WED SOMEONE DECIDED THAT ALL THE PREVIOUS WTS AND INDEXES WERE INCORRECT. BECAUSE I HURRIEDLY READ THE RELEASE AND MISSED THE CHANGE TO THE CHANGE; WE USED THE INCORRECT INDEX FOR OUR FIRST FLT OF THE DAY. I OF COURSE FEEL I SHOULD BE MORE CAREFUL READING THE RELEASES; ESPECIALLY WHEN PROCS CHANGE. HOWEVER; I ALSO FEEL THE RELEASE COULD HAVE BEEN WORDED BETTER; AND MORE ATTENTION BROUGHT TO THE FACT THAT WE ARE MAKING A CHANGE TO THE PROCS WE JUST CHANGED IN THE MEMOS FROM THE DAY BEFORE.
