Narrative:
On taxi in at svmi; I mistakenly turned into the ramp at taxiway G; restricted to B727 and smaller aircraft. This was caused by: 1) poorly to unlit taxiway G sign. 2) a taxiway C sign located at taxiway G appears to identify taxiway G as taxiway C; not point ahead to taxiway C. 3) many taxiway lights inoperative. 4) no ramp illumination at all. Both myself and the first officer realized the error after I was committed to the turn. No conflict existed and we proceeded to the gate without incident. This occurred after a 7 plus hour flight time day. I have flown into svmi for 15 yrs and it still happened. Maybe some illumination is in order.
