Narrative:

During taxi out for takeoff; while conducting flight control check; both pilots noticed significant binding when checking the ailerons. Additionally; at approximately 40-50% control wheel displacement; there was a significant increase in resistance and force required to obtain full aileron deflection; primarily to the right. The control wheel would also not return to neutral -- it would remain at about 20% deflection in either direction. Notified dispatch and maintenance. Returned to blocks. Aircraft removed from service by maintenance. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the yoke; when moved to the right or left with approximately 40% of deflection at the point where the spoilers pick up the aileron control; increased in resistance and the yoke would not return to center when released. The aircraft was returned to the gate and was taken OTS. The aircraft had a previous maintenance history and did have a spoiler control module recently replaced but the maintenance action taken on this report is unknown.

Title: A B757-200 ON FLT CTL CHK FOUND BINDING AILERONS AT SPOILER PICK-UP POINT AND WHEN RELEASED YOKE WOULD NOT RETURN TO CTR. ACFT HAD PREVIOUS HISTORY.

Narrative: DURING TAXI OUT FOR TKOF; WHILE CONDUCTING FLT CTL CHK; BOTH PLTS NOTICED SIGNIFICANT BINDING WHEN CHKING THE AILERONS. ADDITIONALLY; AT APPROX 40-50% CTL WHEEL DISPLACEMENT; THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN RESISTANCE AND FORCE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN FULL AILERON DEFLECTION; PRIMARILY TO THE R. THE CTL WHEEL WOULD ALSO NOT RETURN TO NEUTRAL -- IT WOULD REMAIN AT ABOUT 20% DEFLECTION IN EITHER DIRECTION. NOTIFIED DISPATCH AND MAINT. RETURNED TO BLOCKS. ACFT REMOVED FROM SVC BY MAINT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE YOKE; WHEN MOVED TO THE R OR L WITH APPROX 40% OF DEFLECTION AT THE POINT WHERE THE SPOILERS PICK UP THE AILERON CTL; INCREASED IN RESISTANCE AND THE YOKE WOULD NOT RETURN TO CTR WHEN RELEASED. THE ACFT WAS RETURNED TO THE GATE AND WAS TAKEN OTS. THE ACFT HAD A PREVIOUS MAINT HISTORY AND DID HAVE A SPOILER CTL MODULE RECENTLY REPLACED BUT THE MAINT ACTION TAKEN ON THIS RPT IS UNKNOWN.
