Narrative:
Mechanics sent to change out E1 high stage valve and they brought part #X which is anti-ice valve. They took off part #Y; which is high stage valve. Ipc is not clear on interchangeability and dash shows it as 2-WAY along with emb web site. We called emb technical representative and he told us he would get a letter from emb so we could use the other part. He told us to go ahead and install the part and the letter will come soon after. The mechanics installed the part and waited for 2 hours or so. Emb indicated they were having e-mail problems and so the mechanics were asked to sign off the aircraft and they would get the paperwork when they got back to their base. Response from emb that part was not interchangeable.
