Narrative:
Approximately XA00 hours; I was assigned r-hand wing navigation light. My lead told me to stand by; he wanted to check with ZZZ for an MEL. While waiting; I gathered up my tools and bulbs plus a lift truck and proceeded out to the aircraft. Lift truck kept dying while trying to position it. Got into position. Went upstairs and turned off switch and tagged. Went back downstairs and started to change navigation light. Found approximately 6-10 fasteners stripped. Having to use lapping component to remove them; proceeded to change navigation light pre-assembled light assembly. Installed good screws into panel. Before buttoning up panel; I thought I should go and see if it worked. Went upstairs to operations check; went back downstairs to operations check -- operations normal. Went back upstairs to sign off book. Called off aircraft. Came back to office to put tools away; entered log page; and discovered stripped screws I had intended to replace in my pocket! I grabbed a screw gun and a lift truck and went back out. Plane had pushed; so I called coordinator and told him what had happened. Approximately 15-20 min lapsed.
