Narrative:
H25 initially was climbed to FL310 on a radar vector behind additional traffic descending into mci. When it became apparent that this vector would not take him behind this traffic; I issued clearance to H25; revised altitude maintain FL300. Pilot's readback was 'ok will check with you.' at FL300 pilot continued climb to FL310 when questioned further stated he understood advise FL300.

Title: ZKC CTLR EXPERIENCED OPERROR AT FL310 WHEN CLBING ACFT WAS ISSUED INTERMEDIATE ALT; BUT ACFT MISUNDERSTOOD THE CLRNC.
Narrative: H25 INITIALLY WAS CLBED TO FL310 ON A RADAR VECTOR BEHIND ADDITIONAL TFC DSNDING INTO MCI. WHEN IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THIS VECTOR WOULD NOT TAKE HIM BEHIND THIS TFC; I ISSUED CLRNC TO H25; REVISED ALT MAINTAIN FL300. PLT'S READBACK WAS 'OK WILL CHK WITH YOU.'
