Narrative:
During one of the touch-and-goes after we had landed I was reaching for the carburetor heat (so that I could push it in and then push in the throttle to complete the go part of the touch-and-go). Unfortunately; I accidentally grabbed the gear lever and pulled it up instead of pushing in the carburetor heat. As a result the nose gear collapsed (squat switch didn't work; obviously) and there was damage to the front of the aircraft; propeller and maybe the engine. At the time I pulled the lever; we were going about 30-40 KTS and my instructor was not able to keep the nose off the ground. After I had realized what I had done; I pushed the lever down again but as I said; the nose sank immediately. After the propeller hit the ground; I pulled the mixture and then continued to clean the aircraft with my instructor.

Title: C172RG STUDENT RETRACTS LNDG GEAR ON GND DURING TOUCH-AND-GOES.
Narrative: DURING ONE OF THE TOUCH-AND-GOES AFTER WE HAD LANDED I WAS REACHING FOR THE CARB HEAT (SO THAT I COULD PUSH IT IN AND THEN PUSH IN THE THROTTLE TO COMPLETE THE GO PART OF THE TOUCH-AND-GO). UNFORTUNATELY; I ACCIDENTALLY GRABBED THE GEAR LEVER AND PULLED IT UP INSTEAD OF PUSHING IN THE CARB HEAT. AS A RESULT THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED (SQUAT SWITCH DIDN'T WORK; OBVIOUSLY) AND THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE ACFT; PROP AND MAYBE THE ENG. AT THE TIME I PULLED THE LEVER; WE WERE GOING ABOUT 30-40 KTS AND MY INSTRUCTOR WAS NOT ABLE TO KEEP THE NOSE OFF THE GND. AFTER I HAD REALIZED WHAT I HAD DONE; I PUSHED THE LEVER DOWN AGAIN BUT AS I SAID; THE NOSE SANK IMMEDIATELY. AFTER THE PROP HIT THE GND; I PULLED THE MIXTURE AND THEN CONTINUED TO CLEAN THE ACFT WITH MY INSTRUCTOR.
