Narrative:
Engine manufacturer could not supply (harness was not available) the harness that was needed. I notified my lead technician supervisor; planner; and technician lead that the harness was not available. I then asked my lead; technician lead; and supervisor to verify/confirm if the old style and new style harness were compatible with each other. I was then informed by my technician lead that mr X (manufacturer) had given him a verbal; that the old style harness could be installed with the new style harness. I was then given a verbal to install the old style and new style harness together; by my lead technician and technician lead. My supervisor was informed of these events. Field trip to correct this action. Engine manufacturer giving incorrect information to the shop floor that both harness halves could be installed.
