Narrative:
During the acceptance check; the main landing gear bay overheat would not test. The first officer reported that a piece of the fire detect loop was missing from the right wheel bin. I called the flight attendant and told her to hold boarding. I next called dispatch and told him the problem and requested to speak with maintenance. The maintenance controller said it could be deferred and talked me through the deferral. My phone then cut off as we finished. I read the MEL 26-14-01 and the supplement. The problem is; I did not turn the page after item #5 since there was a large blank area and I thought that was the end of the supplement. I also failed to leave the gear down for 10 mins per the MEL. En route to cvg; I was called via atl radio to call my dispatcher once on the ground. I felt rushed to get out on time. Early morning; poor light; but simply being self-rushed and not reading the MEL and slowing down.
