Narrative:

Instructed by ground controller to hold for helicopter departure. Large helicopter area adjacent to turnoff 'G' south of runway 28L (surrounding fuel pit). On takeoff; helicopter was close enough to spray abrasive dust/small stones; etc; on my face. Goggles/helmet protected portions of my skin/eyes. No injury resulted; but it is clear that injury from this type of operation is possible. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that myf tower apologized for allowing the helicopter operation so near his aircraft. The reporter still feels the helipad should be located elsewhere because of its current location near the fuel pit and its proximity to a busy taxiway intersection. He feels a better location would be near the city pad between the ramp and taxiway J.

Title: A PLT RPTS IMPACT DEBRIS FROM A DEPARTING HELI ON MYF TXWY INTXN G AND INTXN H NEAR FUEL PITS.

Narrative: INSTRUCTED BY GND CTLR TO HOLD FOR HELI DEP. LARGE HELI AREA ADJACENT TO TURNOFF 'G' S OF RWY 28L (SURROUNDING FUEL PIT). ON TKOF; HELI WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO SPRAY ABRASIVE DUST/SMALL STONES; ETC; ON MY FACE. GOGGLES/HELMET PROTECTED PORTIONS OF MY SKIN/EYES. NO INJURY RESULTED; BUT IT IS CLR THAT INJURY FROM THIS TYPE OF OP IS POSSIBLE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT MYF TWR APOLOGIZED FOR ALLOWING THE HELI OP SO NEAR HIS ACFT. THE RPTR STILL FEELS THE HELIPAD SHOULD BE LOCATED ELSEWHERE BECAUSE OF ITS CURRENT LOCATION NEAR THE FUEL PIT AND ITS PROX TO A BUSY TXWY INTXN. HE FEELS A BETTER LOCATION WOULD BE NEAR THE CITY PAD BTWN THE RAMP AND TXWY J.
