Narrative:
We were taking off runway 35L; flying the nobly 2 departure. Tower xferred us to regional departure control and we made a first call. That call went unanswered; so we waited before calling again. Departure then called us and directed us to correct our transponder code from XXXX to xxyx. We complied; and checked in climbing out of 3800 ft. Shortly after; we saw traffic at 1 O'clock position traveling east to west. The TCAS called out the traffic at the same time departure cleared us direct to nobly. We queried him about the traffic; reporting that we had it in sight; so he directed us to maintain 7000 ft till clear. We complied and leveled briefly at just above 7000 ft. Departure then said we were clear; and we continued the climb to 10000 ft and continued direct to nobly and on course. The TCAS alerted a TA but no RA. The traffic appeared to come no closer than 3 mi. Later we were instructed to telephone dfw regional; which I did and gave the supervisor the information he requested.
