Narrative:
On mar/fri/06; amt #1 (me) was called to gate by cabin service. 2 contract personnel were holding door 5L 2/3 open with girt bar laying on truck platform. It was windy; I inspected slide cover; no damage; then lifted cover. Slide pack lacings were tight. Called for help on radio. Amt #2 and lead amt helped with girt bar and door. We placed it inside and closed the door. Lead amt; and #2 and I replaced girt bar on door. While packing slide we saw d-rings hanging. Had lead call for new slide. Amt #1 and amt #2 attempted to pin slide bottle; slide deployed. There did not appear to be enough slide pulled from pack on cabin service truck to have pulled pack pin. There should be a measurement in maintenance manual for all slides. There is poor communication between contract personnel and maintenance. Most door problems we have had lately are doors contractors use.
