Narrative:

We were working a slat flap fault message. Change a slat flap control unit. It was checked by me. It was determined that it wasn't rii so I didn't sign the logbook. It is a well known item in maintenance and it was determined that this unit is not rii. If the FAA decides it is to be rii'ed; I can do it. The only thing that needs to be done is for me to sign the book. I received a letter from maintenance stating that we missed an rii. I spoke up and told him I was on the road trip. The letter came down from moc. The letter stated there was an FAA letter of investigation.
