Narrative:
We were on a radar heading for approach into clt. We had been told to expect runway 18R approach with runway 18L on request. ATC cleared us to snakk intersection. Our FMS had the runway 18R approach in it and we could not find snakk. I reviewed the runway 18L approach plate and found it. I requested the first officer put the runway 18L approach in his FMS and send it to me. He did; but snakk was not in the approach. We later noted that a transition from the north needed to be selected for snakk to appear. We were arriving from the west. I manually put snakk into the FMS and selected 'direct to.' the aircraft began a turn to the south. ATC asked us where we were turning to and assigned us a 110 degree heading. Apparently; when I selected 'direct to' I had not inserted snakk and the aircraft turned to the next fix on the previously assigned arrival. While I assume responsibility for this error; ATC instructions could have been more clear. Perhaps pointing out that snakk was on the runway 18L approach.

Title: DA900 FALCON FLT CREW LOADS THE WRONG APCH IN THE FMC AND TURNS TO THE WRONG FIX. ATC REDIRECTS THE FLT CREW VIA A HDG.
Narrative: WE WERE ON A RADAR HDG FOR APCH INTO CLT. WE HAD BEEN TOLD TO EXPECT RWY 18R APCH WITH RWY 18L ON REQUEST. ATC CLRED US TO SNAKK INTXN. OUR FMS HAD THE RWY 18R APCH IN IT AND WE COULD NOT FIND SNAKK. I REVIEWED THE RWY 18L APCH PLATE AND FOUND IT. I REQUESTED THE FO PUT THE RWY 18L APCH IN HIS FMS AND SEND IT TO ME. HE DID; BUT SNAKK WAS NOT IN THE APCH. WE LATER NOTED THAT A TRANSITION FROM THE N NEEDED TO BE SELECTED FOR SNAKK TO APPEAR. WE WERE ARRIVING FROM THE W. I MANUALLY PUT SNAKK INTO THE FMS AND SELECTED 'DIRECT TO.' THE ACFT BEGAN A TURN TO THE S. ATC ASKED US WHERE WE WERE TURNING TO AND ASSIGNED US A 110 DEG HDG. APPARENTLY; WHEN I SELECTED 'DIRECT TO' I HAD NOT INSERTED SNAKK AND THE ACFT TURNED TO THE NEXT FIX ON THE PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED ARR. WHILE I ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ERROR; ATC INSTRUCTIONS COULD HAVE BEEN MORE CLR. PERHAPS POINTING OUT THAT SNAKK WAS ON THE RWY 18L APCH.
