Narrative:
While parked at the gate at sfo preparing for departure we received a dangerous goods notification for 2 items to be boarded in the pits. The first item was 1 aircraft battery and the second was radioactive material type a. While on walkaround; the first officer saw the aircraft battery sitting on a cart waiting to be boarded; and beside it was a fairly large container labeled 'solvent.' when he returned to the cockpit he asked to see the dangerous goods paperwork to verify that in fact the solvent was included; which it was not. We then called to speak with someone who could assist us with a dangerous goods question and a few mins later a ramp supervisor appeared. We showed him our paperwork and then the first officer accompanied him to look at the items on the cart mentioned above. He indicated that the solvent should not have been there without paperwork and he took it away. He indicated that he would investigate the matter.
