Narrative:
While in cruise; flight attendant reported the smell of burning electric. QRH items seemed to make the smell go away; but after about 5 minutes; the smell came back and was reported to be much worse and getting really bad in cabin. An emergency was declared and uneventful landing was made.

Title: MD80 DIVERTS TO AN EMER LNDG AFTER CABIN ATTENDANT REPORTS BURNING ELECTRICAL ODOR.
Narrative: WHILE IN CRUISE; FLT ATTENDANT RPTED THE SMELL OF BURNING ELECTRIC. QRH ITEMS SEEMED TO MAKE THE SMELL GO AWAY; BUT AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES; THE SMELL CAME BACK AND WAS RPTED TO BE MUCH WORSE AND GETTING REALLY BAD IN CABIN. AN EMER WAS DECLARED AND UNEVENTFUL LNDG WAS MADE.
