Narrative:

Scheduled flight to essa. First leg flying together as captain and first officer. Reviewed paperwork prior to departure including LX1/06 essa local NOTAM -- automated docking system used follow inogon instructions attached with flight papers from cgn. Diagram of docking system included in paperwork. Taxi route and parking briefed for arrival at essa. Ramp clear of aircraft and ground equipment. 2 personnel on ramp and ground equipment well back from parking area. Followed centerline with 1 engine taxi looking at centerline display. Referenced stop display and had a ways to go. Continued straight ahead towards what appeared to be normal parking spot and referenced stop display. Never did see the single line for stop. By this time was past the stop position. At no time was the aircraft near any ground equipment so not near hitting anything. There is a potential safety hazard; however; as the 2 ground personnel did not expect the aircraft to taxi as far as it did. Tug was there within seconds to push us back into normal parking spot. Supplemental information from acn 697466: upon further observation of other B757 aircraft on the ramp the crew noticed none of the other aircraft were parking uniformly. It was apparent that the crews of the other aircraft had also interpreted the self parking system differently.

Title: FLT CREW OF B757 ARE CONFUSED BY UNFAMILIAR AUTOMATED PARKING GUIDANCE DEVICE AND TAXI BEYOND STOPPING POINT.

Narrative: SCHEDULED FLT TO ESSA. FIRST LEG FLYING TOGETHER AS CAPT AND FO. REVIEWED PAPERWORK PRIOR TO DEP INCLUDING LX1/06 ESSA LCL NOTAM -- AUTOMATED DOCKING SYS USED FOLLOW INOGON INSTRUCTIONS ATTACHED WITH FLT PAPERS FROM CGN. DIAGRAM OF DOCKING SYS INCLUDED IN PAPERWORK. TAXI RTE AND PARKING BRIEFED FOR ARR AT ESSA. RAMP CLR OF ACFT AND GND EQUIP. 2 PERSONNEL ON RAMP AND GND EQUIP WELL BACK FROM PARKING AREA. FOLLOWED CTRLINE WITH 1 ENG TAXI LOOKING AT CTRLINE DISPLAY. REFED STOP DISPLAY AND HAD A WAYS TO GO. CONTINUED STRAIGHT AHEAD TOWARDS WHAT APPEARED TO BE NORMAL PARKING SPOT AND REFED STOP DISPLAY. NEVER DID SEE THE SINGLE LINE FOR STOP. BY THIS TIME WAS PAST THE STOP POS. AT NO TIME WAS THE ACFT NEAR ANY GND EQUIP SO NOT NEAR HITTING ANYTHING. THERE IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD; HOWEVER; AS THE 2 GND PERSONNEL DID NOT EXPECT THE ACFT TO TAXI AS FAR AS IT DID. TUG WAS THERE WITHIN SECONDS TO PUSH US BACK INTO NORMAL PARKING SPOT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 697466: UPON FURTHER OBSERVATION OF OTHER B757 ACFT ON THE RAMP THE CREW NOTICED NONE OF THE OTHER ACFT WERE PARKING UNIFORMLY. IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE CREWS OF THE OTHER ACFT HAD ALSO INTERPED THE SELF PARKING SYS DIFFERENTLY.
