Narrative:
We were arriving into pvd being vectored for a visual to runway 5L. WX was night VMC. Approach was waiting for us to call the field and told us to proceed to cutsi for the ILS when we replied 'looking.' we proceeded to kente instead 13 mi out instead of cutsi. Approach asked us if we were proceeding to cutsi and we realized our error. No hit; run or foul; approach turned us over to tower and landed uneventfully. We mistook kente for cutsi. We replied 'kente and placed it top in the CDU but should have looked more closely at the approach because the controller did say FAF when issuing our clearance. Had we confirmed that our point was indeed the FAF we would have at a minimum queried the controller. It was dark; but clear and we were getting close to the field so our concentration was probably too focused on calling the field than studying the chart.

Title: B737-700 FLT CREW HAS A TRACK AND HDG DEV DURING APCH TO RWY 5 ILS PVD.
Narrative: WE WERE ARRIVING INTO PVD BEING VECTORED FOR A VISUAL TO RWY 5L. WX WAS NIGHT VMC. APCH WAS WAITING FOR US TO CALL THE FIELD AND TOLD US TO PROCEED TO CUTSI FOR THE ILS WHEN WE REPLIED 'LOOKING.' WE PROCEEDED TO KENTE INSTEAD 13 MI OUT INSTEAD OF CUTSI. APCH ASKED US IF WE WERE PROCEEDING TO CUTSI AND WE REALIZED OUR ERROR. NO HIT; RUN OR FOUL; APCH TURNED US OVER TO TWR AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. WE MISTOOK KENTE FOR CUTSI. WE REPLIED 'KENTE AND PLACED IT TOP IN THE CDU BUT SHOULD HAVE LOOKED MORE CLOSELY AT THE APCH BECAUSE THE CTLR DID SAY FAF WHEN ISSUING OUR CLRNC. HAD WE CONFIRMED THAT OUR POINT WAS INDEED THE FAF WE WOULD HAVE AT A MINIMUM QUERIED THE CTLR. IT WAS DARK; BUT CLR AND WE WERE GETTING CLOSE TO THE FIELD SO OUR CONCENTRATION WAS PROBABLY TOO FOCUSED ON CALLING THE FIELD THAN STUDYING THE CHART.
