Narrative:
Reverser was written up on prior flight and was to be deferred as inoperative and secured per MEL. Mechanic came up to cockpit and pulled breakers and installed stickers but didn't safety wire reverser handle in down position. I told him it was required but it didn't specifically say it on MEL item so he said he wasn't going to do it. I argued my case with him but to no avail and after he talked to someone on his radio we left without it wired down. Shortly after takeoff maintenance control sent us ACARS message that reverser should have been wired down. Mechanic said procedure had changed so I finally relented and the MEL item was XXXX. Reverser was not used or attempted to use on landing. This is a note to get procedure spelled out correctly on MEL card.
