Narrative:
On the first flight of the day; aircraft tat probe was found damaged by fll ground personnel. The first officer had just completed his external walkaround in the rain and had not noticed the damage. I was already talking to dispatch and technician about cockpit indications of a tat probe failure when fll ground personnel came to the cockpit and told me of the damage. It appears the damage occurred during aircraft tow/jetbridge mating. The first officer realizes he should have found the problem; but felt he was distraction by the heavy rain during the walkaround. Supplemental information from acn 703093: the captain noticed irregularities in the FMC on the N1 page. The plane was grounded until it could be repaired. The captain talked to me about paying closer attention on the walkaround inspection. It won't happen again.
