Narrative:
Air carrier X was traversing my sector (sector 90) from chicago to mexico (northeast to southwest) at FL360. The sector to the south of me was holding aircraft due to thunderstorms in and around the dfw metroplex. The supervisor; mr X told me to clear air carrier X direct cowboy (cve) then direct laredo (lrd) in order to completely miss the sector that was holding (sector 89). I questioned the routing because I was displaying a large area of moderate; heavy and extreme WX directly over the cve VOR. Mr X became agitated that I would question his routing assignment and ordered me to clear air carrier X direct cve direct lrd. Not being insubordinate; I complied with mr X's order and advised air carrier X of the WX I was depicting when I reclred him via the new routing. My point in sending this report is that there were other optional routings that could have been assigned to air carrier X that would have avoided the holding stacks and also avoided the WX.
