Narrative:
Just after leveloff at FL350; we experienced a very slight yaw of the aircraft; prompting me to look up at the engine instruments. The engine #1 fuel flow was about 280 pounds/hour and an ECAM appeared 'engine 1 min fuel flow.' the next moment another ECAM came up 'engine 1 fuel control fault.' the captain and I agreed we had lost the #1 engine and he directed me to take the controls and the radio and to declare an emergency and get turned back toward land (we had just coasted out over nc). He worked the ECAM; which said to shut down the engine. The next ECAM was 'engine #1 fail' which says to attempt a relight if 'no damage.' we talked about this together and decided there was no damage. The engine restarted and we proceeded back to dulles. Meanwhile; the captain coordination with dispatch; the flight attendants (called for a cabin advisory); dulles operations; and made an announcement to the passenger that we were returning to dulles. The WX was VFR and the captain flew the approach and landed on runway 1R. The taxi back to the gate was normal as well.

Title: AN A320 EXPERIENCED AN ENG FAILURE THAT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO A TRANSIENT FAULT. THE CREW WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENG AND RETURN TO DEP ARPT.
Narrative: JUST AFTER LEVELOFF AT FL350; WE EXPERIENCED A VERY SLIGHT YAW OF THE ACFT; PROMPTING ME TO LOOK UP AT THE ENG INSTS. THE ENG #1 FUEL FLOW WAS ABOUT 280 LBS/HR AND AN ECAM APPEARED 'ENG 1 MIN FUEL FLOW.' THE NEXT MOMENT ANOTHER ECAM CAME UP 'ENG 1 FUEL CTL FAULT.' THE CAPT AND I AGREED WE HAD LOST THE #1 ENG AND HE DIRECTED ME TO TAKE THE CTLS AND THE RADIO AND TO DECLARE AN EMER AND GET TURNED BACK TOWARD LAND (WE HAD JUST COASTED OUT OVER NC). HE WORKED THE ECAM; WHICH SAID TO SHUT DOWN THE ENG. THE NEXT ECAM WAS 'ENG #1 FAIL' WHICH SAYS TO ATTEMPT A RELIGHT IF 'NO DAMAGE.' WE TALKED ABOUT THIS TOGETHER AND DECIDED THERE WAS NO DAMAGE. THE ENG RESTARTED AND WE PROCEEDED BACK TO DULLES. MEANWHILE; THE CAPT COORD WITH DISPATCH; THE FLT ATTENDANTS (CALLED FOR A CABIN ADVISORY); DULLES OPS; AND MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE PAX THAT WE WERE RETURNING TO DULLES. THE WX WAS VFR AND THE CAPT FLEW THE APCH AND LANDED ON RWY 1R. THE TAXI BACK TO THE GATE WAS NORMAL AS WELL.
