Narrative:
I have recently purchased and am working to integrate into my cockpit procedures an electronic flight bag (on notebook computer). Although I am an experienced and current pilot; the implementation of the electronic flight bag has caused infrequent breakdowns in my cockpit procedures. In this case; I had just departed VFR from msv in VMC. I climbed to 4500 ft MSL and contacted avp approach on 126.3. The controller gave me my clearance to proceed to lytel intersection thence V93PXT thence as filed; maintain 6000 ft. I read back and acknowledged the clearance; began my climb to 6000 ft and used my electronic flight bag to search for lytel. I became preoccupied with searching the electronic flight bag route section for lytel and flew through my assigned altitude. Immediately upon seeing this happen; the controller cleared me for an immediate climb to 8000 ft MSL to avoid possible conflict with reported cessna traffic. The remainder of the flight was uneventful. In early october; I will be attending my yrly recurrent training. It is my plan to have my instructors evaluate and recommend improved procedures for utilizing my electronic flight bag in-flight!

Title: UNFAMILIAR WITH HIS OR HER NEW ELECTRONIC FLT BAG; PLT OF BE58 CLBS THROUGH CLRED ALT WHILE SEARCHING FOR AN ENRTE FIX.
Narrative: I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED AND AM WORKING TO INTEGRATE INTO MY COCKPIT PROCS AN ELECTRONIC FLT BAG (ON NOTEBOOK COMPUTER). ALTHOUGH I AM AN EXPERIENCED AND CURRENT PLT; THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ELECTRONIC FLT BAG HAS CAUSED INFREQUENT BREAKDOWNS IN MY COCKPIT PROCS. IN THIS CASE; I HAD JUST DEPARTED VFR FROM MSV IN VMC. I CLBED TO 4500 FT MSL AND CONTACTED AVP APCH ON 126.3. THE CTLR GAVE ME MY CLRNC TO PROCEED TO LYTEL INTXN THENCE V93PXT THENCE AS FILED; MAINTAIN 6000 FT. I READ BACK AND ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC; BEGAN MY CLB TO 6000 FT AND USED MY ELECTRONIC FLT BAG TO SEARCH FOR LYTEL. I BECAME PREOCCUPIED WITH SEARCHING THE ELECTRONIC FLT BAG RTE SECTION FOR LYTEL AND FLEW THROUGH MY ASSIGNED ALT. IMMEDIATELY UPON SEEING THIS HAPPEN; THE CTLR CLRED ME FOR AN IMMEDIATE CLB TO 8000 FT MSL TO AVOID POSSIBLE CONFLICT WITH RPTED CESSNA TFC. THE REMAINDER OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL. IN EARLY OCTOBER; I WILL BE ATTENDING MY YRLY RECURRENT TRAINING. IT IS MY PLAN TO HAVE MY INSTRUCTORS EVALUATE AND RECOMMEND IMPROVED PROCS FOR UTILIZING MY ELECTRONIC FLT BAG INFLT!
