Narrative:
During takeoff with positive rate; gear handle was selected up. All gear lights went out except the red right gear light and the red light in gear handle. I referenced the emergency checklist; notified ATC; and maintenance control. We returned back to the airport and landed normally. After arrival at the gate; I did my postflt of the aircraft. I found the right main gear; gear door; and gear well to be normal. I met 2 mechanics at the right main gear of the aircraft. They; too; told me that everything pertaining to the right gear and door appears normal. An FAA inspector is saying that the right main gear door was not secured properly. I have no idea what he is talking about. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated when the airplane was on the ground the reporter and first officer inspected the right main landing gear and door. 2 technicians joined them in the inspection but could find nothing wrong with the gear or door. The airplane was removed from service and jacked and it was discovered the technicians had pinned the landing gear open mechanism. Pin was removed and operation was normal.
