Narrative:
Calm wind; takeoff runway 9; after rotation at 60 ft AGL retracted gear; aircraft settled. Back in ground effect; aircraft would not accelerate. Aborted takeoff; no time to deploy gear. Landed on runway and slid to stop into field on right side of runway. Aircraft was 400+ pounds under maximum gross weight; seemed to be loss of power following rotation/climb. There does not appear to be substantial damage to the aircraft past skin and propeller. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter states that the takeoff was normal until gear retraction when the engine started to lose power. The aircraft settled back onto the runway with the throttle full forward and the gear retracted. One month later the reporter has not discovered what; if anything is wrong with the engine.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: BE36 LOSES PWR ON TKOF AND SETTLES BACK ONTO THE RWY WITH THE GEAR RETRACTED.
Narrative: CALM WIND; TKOF RWY 9; AFTER ROTATION AT 60 FT AGL RETRACTED GEAR; ACFT SETTLED. BACK IN GND EFFECT; ACFT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. ABORTED TKOF; NO TIME TO DEPLOY GEAR. LANDED ON RWY AND SLID TO STOP INTO FIELD ON R SIDE OF RWY. ACFT WAS 400+ LBS UNDER MAX GROSS WT; SEEMED TO BE LOSS OF PWR FOLLOWING ROTATION/CLB. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE ACFT PAST SKIN AND PROP. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATES THAT THE TKOF WAS NORMAL UNTIL GEAR RETRACTION WHEN THE ENG STARTED TO LOSE PWR. THE ACFT SETTLED BACK ONTO THE RWY WITH THE THROTTLE FULL FORWARD AND THE GEAR RETRACTED. ONE MONTH LATER THE RPTR HAS NOT DISCOVERED WHAT; IF ANYTHING IS WRONG WITH THE ENG.
