Narrative:
I was flying to cxp from sql. I had checked the WX via duats before the flight. I was over the sierra mountains when ZOA asked me if I had the NOTAM about cxp airport closure. I said no; could you give it to me? He told me cxp was closed due to a disabled aircraft on the runway. I asked the effective time and he told me XA00Z. I didn't see that NOTAM. Duats is so cluttered with pages of canceled NOTAMS and sigmets that are hundreds of mi away from the intended route of flight that I missed the most important NOTAM to me. I asked ZOA to show my destination as rno and proceeded toward it. I was overflying the field at cxp on my way to rno. I radioed cxp CTAF for TA's in the area. I talked to someone on the ground near the disabled aircraft on runway 9/27. I saw the aircraft; men and equipment on the runway. I made a turn and was about to depart the area toward rno when I noticed my fuel gauges were low. I was unsure if I had enough fuel to continue. I elected to land on taxiway C which was diagonal to the closed runway. In retrospect; if I would have seen the NOTAM I would have flown direct to rno. I believe duats should be cleaned up and that applicable NOTAMS to the destination should be in bold print. They should not be mixed in with all the clutter.
