Narrative:

During cruise; right engine spooled down to idle and received a right fadec caution. QRH directed bringing the power lever to idle and asked 'are engine indications normal?' I responded 'no' because I had no control of the fadec and shut the engine down. We diverted. After the event; I spoke to a mechanic about the possibility of the fadec doing something bad such as commanding full power in the landing flare. The mechanic believes that once the fadec has come to idle; it will stay there. So; in retrospect; I probably would have been better off answering; 'yes; engine indications are normal;' and leaving the engine running.

Title: CRJ200 FLT CREW IN CRUISE HAD THE R ENG SPOOL DOWN ACCOMPANIED WITH A FADEC CAUTION.

Narrative: DURING CRUISE; R ENG SPOOLED DOWN TO IDLE AND RECEIVED A R FADEC CAUTION. QRH DIRECTED BRINGING THE PWR LEVER TO IDLE AND ASKED 'ARE ENG INDICATIONS NORMAL?' I RESPONDED 'NO' BECAUSE I HAD NO CTL OF THE FADEC AND SHUT THE ENG DOWN. WE DIVERTED. AFTER THE EVENT; I SPOKE TO A MECH ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF THE FADEC DOING SOMETHING BAD SUCH AS COMMANDING FULL PWR IN THE LNDG FLARE. THE MECH BELIEVES THAT ONCE THE FADEC HAS COME TO IDLE; IT WILL STAY THERE. SO; IN RETROSPECT; I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF ANSWERING; 'YES; ENG INDICATIONS ARE NORMAL;' AND LEAVING THE ENG RUNNING.
