Narrative:
ATC issued 20 mins of holding over radds intersection into jfk at FL270. Volume of traffic was the reason. We were released from holding with 200 pounds of holding fuel remaining. We had no alternate and 300 pounds additional fuel in our release. The next center advised to expect more holding. We declined and began planning for a diversion to bwi or phl. The controller checked with ZNY and they allowed us to continue without further delay. We landed with 1680 pounds of fuel in jfk. We need to carry more fuel into hub airports for unexpected delays as this was. The WX was perfect; winds were 270 degrees at 8 KTS on ground in jfk. There was no reason to be delayed except for the volume of traffic which as a flight crew we cannot anticipate.
