Narrative:
While at our intermediate cruise altitude FL340 we were given a clearance to FL400; our final. We were a light B737-700 and were climbing about 2000 FPM. At FL357; ZLA called and said company X level at FL360 for traffic. I immediately started lowering the nose and pulled power off the aircraft; trying not to bounce our passenger or flight attendants off the ceiling. We overshoot FL360 by 200 ft. As I was correcting back to FL360 we got a TA followed by RA; which lasted less than 5 seconds. After we leveled at FL360 ZLA expressed gratitude for the expeditious leveloff. The first officer had the traffic in sight while the leveloff was happening. We asked the flight attendants after the fact and they stated they didn't realize anything abnormal had happened.
