Narrative:
At FL350; 50 NM west of fxc; we encountered severe turbulence. The aircraft started to over-speed. I manually reduced the throttles to idle. The aircraft continued to accelerate. I turned off the autoplt to gain better control of the aircraft. We had lost approximately 800 ft. I turned off the autothrottles also to gain better control of the aircraft. I regained control and recaptured our assigned altitude of FL350. The autoplt and autothrottles were re-engaged. No injuries or damage was discovered or reported. The WX radar was of little use to us. No WX was being painted by the WX radar. The captain reported before the flight he learned of some possible tornados in the vicinity from watching the WX channel. The station in aus had no graphical WX information for us to use.

Narrative: AT FL350; 50 NM W OF FXC; WE ENCOUNTERED SEVERE TURB. THE ACFT STARTED TO OVER-SPEED. I MANUALLY REDUCED THE THROTTLES TO IDLE. THE ACFT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I TURNED OFF THE AUTOPLT TO GAIN BETTER CTL OF THE ACFT. WE HAD LOST APPROX 800 FT. I TURNED OFF THE AUTOTHROTTLES ALSO TO GAIN BETTER CTL OF THE ACFT. I REGAINED CTL AND RECAPTURED OUR ASSIGNED ALT OF FL350. THE AUTOPLT AND AUTOTHROTTLES WERE RE-ENGAGED. NO INJURIES OR DAMAGE WAS DISCOVERED OR RPTED. THE WX RADAR WAS OF LITTLE USE TO US. NO WX WAS BEING PAINTED BY THE WX RADAR. THE CAPT RPTED BEFORE THE FLT HE LEARNED OF SOME POSSIBLE TORNADOS IN THE VICINITY FROM WATCHING THE WX CHANNEL. THE STATION IN AUS HAD NO GRAPHICAL WX INFO FOR US TO USE.
