Narrative:
Upon landing on runway 9R in ord today; our left wingtip touched the runway due to gusty winds. The winds were 020-030 degrees at 20-25 KTS; gusts up to 30-35 KTS. The first officer was the PF and had the controls. Everything was looking ok until just about the time to flare and then a gust came and the plane rolled and then we touched down. We did not realize we had struck the runway until we did a postflt walkaround and saw the paint scratched off on the underside of the left wingtip. We called our maintenance personnel and filled out the proper paperwork. In the future; I will ask for more favorable runways with wind or make sure that the person flying; myself included; is capable of crosswind lndgs for the plane we are flying. Supplemental information from acn 717546: on the landing flare gusty winds picked up the left wing. Captain deflected left rudder pedal full deflection at which time the left wing dipped down. The left main gear contacted the ground followed closely by the right main; then nose.

Title: A CRJ200 STRUCK A WINGTIP ON LNDG IN GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS AT ORD.
Narrative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
