Narrative:
After engine start and initial taxi; lost entire 'a' system hydraulics on the ramp. Master caution/hydraulic light illuminated on panel. A system 'low pressure' light was on. Hydraulic quantity was depleting rapidly; and ramp called to notify us that we were spilling large quantities of hydraulic fluid. We stopped taxiing; set the parking brake; turned off the a electric and engine pumps; notified ramp that we would be shutting down engines; and requested emergency equipment to inspect the aircraft. After aircraft inspection; towed back to the gate by maintenance. Maintenance informed us that a seal blew out. Aircraft repaired and returned to service for a 4 hour late departure.
