Narrative:
During our climb; ATC asked if we were climbing to 5000 ft and we replied yes. After being handed off to the next controller we were asked if 5000 ft was assigned and we replied yes. Then he told us it was 'no big deal; but turboprops flying the mem 7 departure should be at 3000 ft.'

Title: SAAB 340B FLT CREW HAS AN ALTDEV DURING THE MEM 7 DEP.
Narrative: DURING OUR CLB; ATC ASKED IF WE WERE CLBING TO 5000 FT AND WE REPLIED YES. AFTER BEING HANDED OFF TO THE NEXT CTLR WE WERE ASKED IF 5000 FT WAS ASSIGNED AND WE REPLIED YES. THEN HE TOLD US IT WAS 'NO BIG DEAL; BUT TURBOPROPS FLYING THE MEM 7 DEP SHOULD BE AT 3000 FT.'
