Narrative:

TEB5 departure off runway 24 teb. I (PIC) continued climb to 2000 ft on 280 degree heading prior to 4.5 DME per SID. Noted by ATC. Possible contributing factors: 1) first time for PIC to operate in/out of teb. 2) first time this crew has ever flown together. 3) PIC did not fully scan SID procedure and never recognized 1500 ft AGL restriction. Only saw '2000 ft' listed as altitude in box immediately adjacent to runway 24 instructions. To prevent this situation in future; rewrite SID procedure to reflect 'climb and maintain 1500 ft; thence at 4.5 DME continue to climb to 2000 ft;' or make boxes for SID information large enough to include all instructions for respective runways in question.
