Narrative:
Taxiing north on the cyul apron; we were cleared to taxi via A4; taxiway a to runway 24L. I had the airport diagram out and had a hard time finding where taxiway A4 intersects the apron. The captain and I noticed we were taxiing across a runway 06/24 hold short line and stopped the aircraft with our nose 5 to 10 ft across the line. We had taxied too far on the ramp. The aircraft was well away from the runway. Talking with ground we made a 180 and found the correct taxiway. Looking at the airport diagram I feel it is poorly labeled. Taxiway A4 is not labeled where it intersects the ramp and if we were cleared just via taxiway a to runway 24L we would not have had a problem; taxiway A4 is only labeled where it comes off of runway 24L. It is the same on the 10-9C page. I was flipping back and forth from 10-9 to 10-9C to try to figure out our instructions and on both; the taxiway A4 is poorly labeled.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR PLT NOTES THAT THE CYUL RAMP TO TXWY A4 TO TXWY A TRANSITIONS ARE POORLY MARKED ON THE COMMERCIAL ARPT DIAGRAMS; CONTRIBUTING TO A RWY 24 INCURSION.
Narrative: TAXIING N ON THE CYUL APRON; WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI VIA A4; TXWY A TO RWY 24L. I HAD THE ARPT DIAGRAM OUT AND HAD A HARD TIME FINDING WHERE TXWY A4 INTERSECTS THE APRON. THE CAPT AND I NOTICED WE WERE TAXIING ACROSS A RWY 06/24 HOLD SHORT LINE AND STOPPED THE ACFT WITH OUR NOSE 5 TO 10 FT ACROSS THE LINE. WE HAD TAXIED TOO FAR ON THE RAMP. THE ACFT WAS WELL AWAY FROM THE RWY. TALKING WITH GND WE MADE A 180 AND FOUND THE CORRECT TXWY. LOOKING AT THE ARPT DIAGRAM I FEEL IT IS POORLY LABELED. TXWY A4 IS NOT LABELED WHERE IT INTERSECTS THE RAMP AND IF WE WERE CLRED JUST VIA TXWY A TO RWY 24L WE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD A PROB; TXWY A4 IS ONLY LABELED WHERE IT COMES OFF OF RWY 24L. IT IS THE SAME ON THE 10-9C PAGE. I WAS FLIPPING BACK AND FORTH FROM 10-9 TO 10-9C TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT OUR INSTRUCTIONS AND ON BOTH; THE TXWY A4 IS POORLY LABELED.
