Narrative:
Observed aircraft crossing runway centerline at end of runway during takeoff. Rejected takeoff and taxied clear of runway. The aircraft was in fact on taxiway J past the end of the runway. I was not able to verify that the aircraft was not crossing our runway due to low light conditions (early morning and overcast with runway lights on). I elected to reject the takeoff. Tower could advise that an aircraft is crossing on taxiway J when issuing takeoff clearance. The aircraft in question was a large airbus and looked closer than he actually was.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737-500 FLT CREW REJECTS A TKOF DUE TO POSSIBLE RWY INCURSION AT DFW.
Narrative: OBSERVED ACFT XING RWY CTRLINE AT END OF RWY DURING TKOF. REJECTED TKOF AND TAXIED CLR OF RWY. THE ACFT WAS IN FACT ON TXWY J PAST THE END OF THE RWY. I WAS NOT ABLE TO VERIFY THAT THE ACFT WAS NOT XING OUR RWY DUE TO LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS (EARLY MORNING AND OVCST WITH RWY LIGHTS ON). I ELECTED TO REJECT THE TKOF. TWR COULD ADVISE THAT AN ACFT IS XING ON TXWY J WHEN ISSUING TKOF CLRNC. THE ACFT IN QUESTION WAS A LARGE AIRBUS AND LOOKED CLOSER THAN HE ACTUALLY WAS.
