Narrative:
When cleared for takeoff; ran last 3 steps of mechanical checklist and noticed stall failure indication light illuminated. Held in position and ran OM vol QRH checklist and found #2 stall system normal but #1 did not pass test. Pulled circuit breaker and last step in checklist stated 'flight can continue;' so we took off. After airborne; realized we should have checked the MEL; and sure enough we were wrong to have taken off. No excuses; captain was just plain stupid not to have checked the MEL.
