Narrative:

We did a normal starting and after starting checklist; a taxi checklist and before takeoff checklist and we did not notice anything out of the ordinary. As I (the first officer and PF) began to accelerate down the runway. The captain (PNF) noticed that the 'doors' warning light was on the rwp. We heard no dings and saw no flashing lights. PNF called for an abort which we immediately and without incident executed. We notified the tower and checked the doors page on the systems page and found that the cargo door now indicated open. We taxied back to the gate and the ramper who parked us said that the door was wide open. He was the same one who cleared us out and said that he said that the door was closed as we taxied out (we turned to the right which would have made the door visible to him by approximately 30 ft). After the shut down checklist I (first officer); looked at the door and noticed that the door handle felt looser than usual and that a bag had shifted to push the net out about 8 inches from the straight vertical norm. The cargo net was not entirely secured on the left side; one hook was unsecured even with where the bag had settled. A passenger seated near the rear said we heard the noise of the door opening after we started the takeoff roll. Captain (PNF) called for an abort after the '80 knots.' he said he had first noted the 'doors' rwp after visually sweeping the EICAS page to ensure the engines were operating in norms per sops. After completing the abortion successfully we reported the event per SOP. I feel it is possible that the crew had overlooked the doors open warning light. We acted in a professional manner and accomplished the checklists in an appropriate manner. An additional check of the 'doors' page on the before start checklist may be prudent to incorporate into SOP. A lamp test check during the acceptance of the aircraft could also provide further back up if a bulb or indication is experiencing a short/failure. While reviewing the maintenance log we were aware that the bulb of the 'doors' rwp had been replaced within the last week and the cargo doors sensor was written up and checked the night before.

Title: A DO-328 ON TKOF ROLL AT GRR RECEIVED A DOOR WARNING LIGHT. FLT CREW REJECTED THE TKOF AND RETURNED TO THE RAMP; WHERE A CARGO DOOR WAS FOUND OPEN.

Narrative: WE DID A NORMAL STARTING AND AFTER STARTING CHKLIST; A TAXI CHKLIST AND BEFORE TAKEOFF CHKLIST AND WE DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. AS I (THE FO AND PF) BEGAN TO ACCELERATE DOWN THE RWY. THE CAPT (PNF) NOTICED THAT THE 'DOORS' WARNING LIGHT WAS ON THE RWP. WE HEARD NO DINGS AND SAW NO FLASHING LIGHTS. PNF CALLED FOR AN ABORT WHICH WE IMMEDIATELY AND WITHOUT INCIDENT EXECUTED. WE NOTIFIED THE TWR AND CHKED THE DOORS PAGE ON THE SYSTEMS PAGE AND FOUND THAT THE CARGO DOOR NOW INDICATED OPEN. WE TAXIED BACK TO THE GATE AND THE RAMPER WHO PARKED US SAID THAT THE DOOR WAS WIDE OPEN. HE WAS THE SAME ONE WHO CLEARED US OUT AND SAID THAT HE SAID THAT THE DOOR WAS CLOSED AS WE TAXIED OUT (WE TURNED TO THE RIGHT WHICH WOULD HAVE MADE THE DOOR VISIBLE TO HIM BY APPROX 30 FT). AFTER THE SHUT DOWN CHKLIST I (FO); LOOKED AT THE DOOR AND NOTICED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE FELT LOOSER THAN USUAL AND THAT A BAG HAD SHIFTED TO PUSH THE NET OUT ABOUT 8 INCHES FROM THE STRAIGHT VERTICAL NORM. THE CARGO NET WAS NOT ENTIRELY SECURED ON THE LEFT SIDE; ONE HOOK WAS UNSECURED EVEN WITH WHERE THE BAG HAD SETTLED. A PAX SEATED NEAR THE REAR SAID WE HEARD THE NOISE OF THE DOOR OPENING AFTER WE STARTED THE TAKEOFF ROLL. CAPT (PNF) CALLED FOR AN ABORT AFTER THE '80 KNOTS.' HE SAID HE HAD FIRST NOTED THE 'DOORS' RWP AFTER VISUALLY SWEEPING THE EICAS PAGE TO ENSURE THE ENGINES WERE OPERATING IN NORMS PER SOPS. AFTER COMPLETING THE ABORTION SUCCESSFULLY WE REPORTED THE EVENT PER SOP. I FEEL IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE CREW HAD OVERLOOKED THE DOORS OPEN WARNING LIGHT. WE ACTED IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER AND ACCOMPLISHED THE CHKLISTS IN AN APPROPRIATE MANNER. AN ADDITIONAL CHECK OF THE 'DOORS' PAGE ON THE BEFORE START CHKLIST MAY BE PRUDENT TO INCORPORATE INTO SOP. A LAMP TEST CHECK DURING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE AIRCRAFT COULD ALSO PROVIDE FURTHER BACK UP IF A BULB OR INDICATION IS EXPERIENCING A SHORT/FAILURE. WHILE REVIEWING THE MAINT LOG WE WERE AWARE THAT THE BULB OF THE 'DOORS' RWP HAD BEEN REPLACED WITHIN THE LAST WEEK AND THE CARGO DOORS SENSOR WAS WRITTEN UP AND CHKED THE NIGHT BEFORE.
