Narrative:
Descent through 13000 ft the left engine began to pulse between 80-60% N1. The a flight attendant reported large orange flames coming from and all around the left engine accompanied by loud bangs and vibrations. I took control of the airplane and disconnected the autoplt and autothrottles. Reduced power on left engine to idle while slowing aircraft speed and rate of descent. Compressor stalls abated when at idle; power up to 50% N1 was normal. No abnormal engine indications; temperatures; pressures and vibrations looked normal. Advised ATC engine had compressor stalled but was normal now and would like to continue the 40 mi to ZZZ; without delay. Normal landing at ZZZ. Maintenance was advised and reported to me that they had not observed any abnormal engine indications. We definitely had compressor stalls as witnessed by all crew and passenger; the fact that the engine monitor system did not record it is of concern to me.
