Narrative:
After getting clearance to taxi to parking and to monitor ground; I failed to notify ground control that I had pulled off the taxiway onto the helicopter parking area adjacent to the taxiway after colliding with an unlighted fuel truck that was positioned too close to the taxiway. I proceeded to shut down the airplane and perform an inspection of the impact site. Subsequent to this inspection; we boarded the aircraft and I contacted ground control to continue taxi to parking. The ground controller gave clearance to continue taxi from our present position to parking.
