Narrative:
We departed teb on an IFR flight plan. Departing on runway 24 we followed the SID (teb 5). The SID requires maintaining 1500 ft until passing the teb 4.5 DME. We complied with this however reaching 2000 ft ATC informed us that we climbed 'too early.' I informed them that our DME showed 5.1. At this time I re-verified that both ehsi's had the DME on the teb VOR; which they did. I cannot explain this however I note that the SID provides the ability to determine this fix using an NDB radial. In the future I will make sure I am using any secondary information on this; or any other; SID.
