Narrative:
First officer flying pom six departure out of ont. With a 7000 ft restr over pom; I started a climb to 14000 ft 1.2 mi early. As I was intercepting the radial; I was approaching pom at nearly the same time. I took the turn intercepting the radial as the turn over pom and so I initiated the climb to 14000 ft. I should have used more situational awareness for my position location. Pay a little more attention to detail of closeness to NAVAID and when to start climbing. Supplemental information from acn 726863: departing ont on the pomona departure and cleared to 14000 ft with a 7000 ft crossing restr at pomona. I turned my attention away as the PF appeared to have the restr met. After passing the pomona VOR; ATC informed us we missed the altitude 1.5 mi before pomona. I told him I thought we complied but we were sorry if we did. Proceeded to las with no further events. I should have monitored the crossing more closely and not allowed myself to be distraction.

Title: B737-700 FLT CREW HAS AN ALTDEV DURING THE POMONA SEVEN DEP.
Narrative: FO FLYING POM SIX DEP OUT OF ONT. WITH A 7000 FT RESTR OVER POM; I STARTED A CLB TO 14000 FT 1.2 MI EARLY. AS I WAS INTERCEPTING THE RADIAL; I WAS APCHING POM AT NEARLY THE SAME TIME. I TOOK THE TURN INTERCEPTING THE RADIAL AS THE TURN OVER POM AND SO I INITIATED THE CLB TO 14000 FT. I SHOULD HAVE USED MORE SITUATIONAL AWARENESS FOR MY POS LOCATION. PAY A LITTLE MORE ATTN TO DETAIL OF CLOSENESS TO NAVAID AND WHEN TO START CLBING. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 726863: DEPARTING ONT ON THE POMONA DEP AND CLRED TO 14000 FT WITH A 7000 FT XING RESTR AT POMONA. I TURNED MY ATTN AWAY AS THE PF APPEARED TO HAVE THE RESTR MET. AFTER PASSING THE POMONA VOR; ATC INFORMED US WE MISSED THE ALT 1.5 MI BEFORE POMONA. I TOLD HIM I THOUGHT WE COMPLIED BUT WE WERE SORRY IF WE DID. PROCEEDED TO LAS WITH NO FURTHER EVENTS. I SHOULD HAVE MONITORED THE XING MORE CLOSELY AND NOT ALLOWED MYSELF TO BE DISTR.
