Narrative:
We were taxiing to the gate at the international terminal at ord. As we approached the gate we had to stop to allow the ramp personnel to reposition the jetbridge from the widebody transport position back to the narrow body position. After this was complete the wing walkers positioned their vehicles on the vehicle access road to halt traffic. The accu-park system was turned on and we proceeded to taxi in. At this time I noticed a belt loader approaching at a high rate of speed from my right. I slowed my taxi as I was unsure that he was going to stop for the wing walkers. We had to stop the taxi as he proceeded to drive at this high rate of speed directly between us and the guideman coming to a halt on the right side of the aircraft. The loader came up onto 2 wheels as he came to a stop. The action caught both of us by surprise. We thought the loader might turn over and injure the driver. As this was an international arrival; I was not able to access the ramp to talk with the individual.
