Narrative:
During takeoff (initial climb) from ZZZ lead flight attendant notified cockpit of cabin smoke and heat. The captain declared an emergency and requested immediate turn to a left downwind for runway. Checklist procedures; were accomplished to stop/eliminate smoke/heat; which was being caused by an overheated AC pack. A VFR approach and landing were successfully accomplished and emergency terminated after clearing the runway. Flight crew and flight attendants all credit emergency procedures training for timely efficient handling of emergency and ability to get aircraft back on ground quickly and safely.
