Narrative:

We were cleared via the bibos 7D SID. There are two bibos runway 7D sids in eddf; standard and RNAV; but they are both referred to in an ATC clearance as the bibos runway 7D SID. The flight paths are identical; but the verbiage is different since different navaids are being used for navigation. As we discussed the SID during the pre-departure briefing; the captain and I were referencing the standard SID; page 10-3E; and the relief first officer was referencing the RNAV SID; page 10-3q4. (At this point none of us had noticed that there were two bibos runway 7D sids.) the exact wording and punctuation of the two sids is as follows. Page 10-3E: climb on runway track to 800 ft; to fr (frd 5 DME/ffm 2 DME outbound); turn left immediately; intercept MTR R-203 inbound to D13.1 ffm; turn left; intercept MTR R-288 via odaga to kusom; turn left; 252 track to gubax; turn right; 294 track to rauki; turn right; 335 track via ditam to abaxa; turn left; 328 track to bibos. Page 10-3q4: (800 ft) DF149 MTR odaga - kusom - gubax - ravki - ditam - abaxa - bibos. During the pre-departure briefing; I asked if they thought that that meant to start a left turn at 800 ft; and the relief first officer and the captain replied yes. The captain and I were still referencing the 10-3E page. I thought the wording was confusing but assumed that since the page was not to scale that 800 would coincide with the turn; but in reality; it did not; and the turn was only to be started after passing the fr NDB. We all noted during the brief that even though we each had flown into eddf before; none of us had ever departed on runway 7 and this SID was unfamiliar to us. On departure and at 800 ft; I once again asked if they thought we should turn left 'immediately' and the captain replied yes again even though it didn't look right on the nd and the relief first officer said to continue straight. I started the turn; but a few seconds later; we decided that I should not have made the turn and should return to the track on the nd; so I began correcting back on course immediately. ATC called to verify that we were on the right SID. We said that we were; but were correcting back on course and briefly discussed our confusion with them at their request. The flight continued on without further incident. Comments and recommendations: 1.) we should have examined this SID more carefully during our pre-departure brief at the gate. We all should have been referencing the RNAV SID instead of the standard SID. 2.) I don't think there should be duplicate SID names unless the ATC clearance is going to specify exactly which one is to be followed; standard or RNAV. Even though we are equipped to fly the RNAV SID; not all standard sids have an RNAV equivalent; so an ATC clarification would be helpful. 3.) I think the beginning verbiage on the 10-3E page is very confusing and should be reworded and expanded to read; 'climb on runway track to 800 ft' then proceed direct to fr (frd 5 DME/ffm 2 DME outbound). At fr turn left immediately; intercept MTR R-203 inbound to D13.1 ffm. (On a related note; many european sids and stars are poorly worded.)

Title: A B767-300 FLT CREW IS CONFUSED BY THE EDDF RNAV (BIBOS 8D) AND NON-RNAV (BIBOS 7D) SIDS HAVING SIMILAR NAMES. THEY ALSO ALLEGE THAT THE NON-RNAV TEXTUAL DESCRIPTION IS CONFUSING.

Narrative: WE WERE CLEARED VIA THE BIBOS 7D SID. THERE ARE TWO BIBOS RWY 7D SIDS IN EDDF; STANDARD AND RNAV; BUT THEY ARE BOTH REFERRED TO IN AN ATC CLEARANCE AS THE BIBOS RWY 7D SID. THE FLIGHT PATHS ARE IDENTICAL; BUT THE VERBIAGE IS DIFFERENT SINCE DIFFERENT NAVAIDS ARE BEING USED FOR NAVIGATION. AS WE DISCUSSED THE SID DURING THE PRE-DEPARTURE BRIEFING; THE CAPT AND I WERE REFERENCING THE STANDARD SID; PAGE 10-3E; AND THE RELIEF FO WAS REFERENCING THE RNAV SID; PAGE 10-3Q4. (AT THIS POINT NONE OF US HAD NOTICED THAT THERE WERE TWO BIBOS RWY 7D SIDS.) THE EXACT WORDING AND PUNCTUATION OF THE TWO SIDS IS AS FOLLOWS. PAGE 10-3E: CLIMB ON RWY TRACK TO 800 FT; TO FR (FRD 5 DME/FFM 2 DME OUTBOUND); TURN LEFT IMMEDIATELY; INTERCEPT MTR R-203 INBOUND TO D13.1 FFM; TURN LEFT; INTERCEPT MTR R-288 VIA ODAGA TO KUSOM; TURN LEFT; 252 TRACK TO GUBAX; TURN RIGHT; 294 TRACK TO RAUKI; TURN RIGHT; 335 TRACK VIA DITAM TO ABAXA; TURN LEFT; 328 TRACK TO BIBOS. PAGE 10-3Q4: (800 FT) DF149 MTR ODAGA - KUSOM - GUBAX - RAVKI - DITAM - ABAXA - BIBOS. DURING THE PRE-DEPARTURE BRIEFING; I ASKED IF THEY THOUGHT THAT THAT MEANT TO START A LEFT TURN AT 800 FT; AND THE RELIEF FO AND THE CAPT REPLIED YES. THE CAPT AND I WERE STILL REFERENCING THE 10-3E PAGE. ON DEPARTURE AND AT 800 FT; I ONCE AGAIN ASKED IF THEY THOUGHT WE SHOULD TURN LEFT 'IMMEDIATELY' AND THE CAPT REPLIED YES AGAIN EVEN THOUGH IT DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT ON THE ND AND THE RELIEF FO SAID TO CONTINUE STRAIGHT.
